Evaluation and Reflection:
1) Visual Communication:
In what ways does the visual communication/message of the piece meet the needs of the brief?
By using the unusual word is to to show the audience the straight message towards the word which I had to show an illustration for it.
In what ways does the visual communication/message of the piece fail to meet the needs of the brief?
I did have a problem with that at the beginning of my sketches ideas because it did not met the illustration along with the unusual word, so I think that would confuse and fail the audience by not understanding the message.
What are the strengths of the visual communication? Why?
I think not matter how the illustration can be but it also has to show a strong message or position because without a visual communication can lead to a low message.
What are the weaknesses of the visual communication? Why?
Giving a low message by not making understand to the audience and that can fail with a low resolution illustration and a not appropriate font along with the illustration.
In what ways could the piece be mis-read or mis-understood by the audience? Be specific about who the audience is.
Audience are students, teachers, young and mature people who are in to Graphic design, typography, illustrators. I had to be very careful with my audience since they know how to visualise a message so for me to mis-understand a message I should watch it twice before finished up my development.
In what practical ways could the piece be developed or improved?
I think at the end of the day I have done a good piece by showing a visual message even though I was straggling a bit with the illustration and making sure it was the right the decision but I was happy with the final outcome.
2) Reflection of own working practices:
How was my time keeping?
My time was ok even though I was taking more time on my development because it’s the first time I have done a project about illustration.
How was my analysis of the brief?
I did understood even though it was a bit tough to go trough but I manage to go through it.
How was my research?
My research has helped me alot by looking at other illustrations such as drawing and photography just to catch an idea.
How did I draw conclusions from my research?
To look at different illustration and ideas from each section that I was interested to.
How did I use research to generate and develop ideas?
To get information drawings, illustration, imagination, photographs, people thoughts and sketches.
How did I use evaluations to help with my ideas generation and development?
In what ways did I show that I had achieved the Learning Outcomes? How can I improve this next time?
What parts of the project did I enjoy most? Why was this the case?
I enjoyed the research of looking at ideas and have conclusion of it.
What parts of the project did I enjoy least? Why was this the case?
I cannot say did not enjoy because I did learn how to handle in illustration.
At what times did I work best? Why might this be the case? How can I ensure that I work well at al times?
I think by getting information of the meaning of the unusual word and manupulating my illustration at the final development.
What areas inspired me? Why was this the case? How could I follow these up?
I was inspired but illustrations and seen the different methods that are used in it. There was many techniques like using a brush tool, painting, drawing and also it followed me to photography in a way of having an idea to come up with an illustration.
How can I go about developing and improving the parts I found difficult?
Well my drawings did help me a lot to manipulate them in illustrator but I did found a bit difficult on using illustration but I did all my best.
Do I need to develop certain skills? Do I need these now? Or later?
I think am not a good drawer but I did the most of it and by practice I think Ill get better.
I couldn’t go to the exhibition on wednesday but am looking forward for this saturday October 25 and I will be posting some pictures and comments about it.
From my development and research I have come up with my final illustration poster by including logo, font and colours.
I think I have come up with good illustration even though I tried my best in illustrate them but am happy with the results.
The purpose of this poster its to show a straight message of Agrypnia – Insomnia so I chose one of my sketches and decided to scan it to illustrator so my point its using an “tired eye clock” and then give a colour to the background but at the end of the day messing around with illustration I came out with the idea of adding sheeps around the “tired eye clock” to make it stand
Developing my design I came up with the idea of doing red vines around inside the eyes but then I decided not to because it looked messy and difficult to understand so the best I added some wobbly arrow into the eye clock to show the tiredness following with the sheep counting time.
Trying different colours to the poster I came across with a light yellow not to bright neither dark because I wanted to give a soft view as Agrypnia – Insomnia, usually its a dark colour or pale but in this case I have illustrated as an outline in black colour then the light yellow background will stand out.
I used the same position on the title and logo as the first poster because we have been told to use the same font in every poster.
My purpose of this poster its to show an area of Agoraphobia – Fear of open spaces so ill be doing an Arctic landscape showing a walking man with fearless far away from the snow cracks but then I had a critic from my teacher and was told that I should use better a man crouching.
I agreed with my teacher opinion because it would stand out more so I decided to go into illustration and add colours to it.
I used the title font with “OriyaMN” because it looks appropriate to the illustration and it shows a bit ligther and I located the logo in the middle of the illustration and tittle poster.
I used a light colour and a soft brush retouching to show a soft illustration by using a bit of shade around the cracks from the Arctic.
As you can see I used one of my last sketch in “Agoraphobia – Fear of open spaces” to come up for my final poster.
First I wanted to just painted on top of my sketch but then I realized that from my sketch I should be doing like an outline using a soft brush tool so it would look a bit of neater drawing as illustration.
Then I decided to use colour by playing around with the sky so it would stand out the Arctic snow/ice cracks and the crunching man in the middle of the space.
From my chosen sketch I wanted to research some of arctic ideas to illustrate for my final poster.
I have started to draw some of my ideas for “Agrypnia – Insomnia” just to come with a major idea for my final.
Here are more sketches for “Agoraphobia – Fear of open spaces” were I think I have come up with good and bad ideas that might not show as the “unusual word” but I did my best to can up with other different ideas.
Today I was given a feedback from my friends and teacher that I should think carefully on the word message to my illustration so means I should stable my idea and play around by adding more illustration to make sense.
I learnt from my mistakes and I’m going to manipulate my drawings and come up with a right message to my final poster.
